Dr. Connaughty learned about chiropractic health care through first-hand experience. Left unable to speak and partially paralyzed by a stroke at only 16, Dr. Connaughty worked his way back to health through intensive speech and physical therapy, and six months of chiropractic care. He then decided to make chiropractic health care his career. After completing undergraduate training at St. John’s University and the University of Minnesota, Dr. Connaughty went on to receive a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.
In 1987, he founded the Connaughty Chiropractic Center in Old Saybrook. Today, he is a member of the Connecticut Chiropractic Association and the American Chiropractic Association.
To provide his patients with the most up-to-date care possible, Dr Connaughty frequently attends post-graduate seminars, and has completed a three-year program to earn an advanced degree in Industrial and Occupational Health. He also does ergonomic consulting for business and industries.
After nearly 30 years in practice, Dr. Connaughty’s continual pursuit of excellence has brought him to Active Release Technique (ART) He is very excited about his certification in ART and the treatment results he is getting with athletes and non-athletes alike.
Cardiovascular fitness is a lifetime passion for Dr. Connaughty. He is a former triathlete turned competitive cyclist, spin instructor and basketball player.
Dr. Connaughty lives in Niantic with his wife, Lynn, who is also a chiropractor, and their 4 children; Austin, Daniel, Spencer and Abigail. His two eldest boys are pursuing careers in Chiropractic health care.
Dr. Benjamin Szczypek first became interested in Chiropractic after suffering from intense back pain in high school. He tried multiple medications and therapies, but only found relief after being treated by a chiropractor. His personal experience was determinant in shaping his commitment to helping patients through non-invasive chiropractic techniques.
After graduating cum laude with a degree in Neuroscience from Skidmore College, Dr. Szczypek went on to attend and graduate cum laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Florida, where he worked extensively with the clinic and the community. He also volunteered with health groups internationally, treating patients in the Amazon in Brazil. Dr. Szczypek is currently a member of the Connecticut Chiropractic Association.
Dr. Szczypek’s training is focused on pain management and evidence-based care. He specializes in techniques to empower patients with the ability to manage their own pain, including dietary modifications and exercise programs in his treatment plans. He is an avid reader of medical journals and strives to give his patients the best care by continually attending post-graduate seminars and professional conferences.
When not treating patients or continuing his dedication to exercise and fitness, Dr. Szczypek spends time at home in Hamden, where he lives with his wife and two young children.
Luke Maynard, LMT is the Massage Therapist for the Connaughty Chiropractic Center. He is also the founder and head therapist at Therapeutic Release, LLC which is located on the second floor. He uses his techniques in everyday life and focuses on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Over the years Luke has found a strong connection with massage therapy. It is a passion of his and since graduating from the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy in 2008, receiving his license has been one of his greatest personal achievements. As a massage therapist he loves creating connections with his clients and knowing that the work he is doing on them is helping them live better lifestyles, physically and mentally.
Luke possesses a strong working knowledge of the physical anatomy and body movement. He draws upon his training and highly developed intuitive skills to help identify muscular imbalances. With his current clients as well as future ones he believes that every session is to be customized to their specific needs and is always ready to give clients his full attention. Whether they live a physically demanding or highly stressful lifestyle, he is there to provide for them.
